Michigan State Police accuse man of arson over trash bin fires

Following reports of two trash bin fires near the campus of Central Michigan University, police have arrested a man they say caused the flames. The man could also be charged in connection with a series fires that took place in late April and early May. It does not appear that anyone was hurt in the arson fires or the earlier ones.

Will flying with a pressure cooker become illegal?

Readers in Lansing probably know that pressure cookers were used in the bombs that caused the deadly explosions during the Boston Marathon in April. It appears that security officials at Detroit Metropolitan Airport are now considering everyone traveling with a pressure cooker with suspicion -- or at least a Saudi man coming to visit his nephew the U.S.

Woman arrested for 2nd false rape accusation

A Michigan woman is facing several fraud charges, some of which are related to filing false claims of being sexually assaulted. The charges come a few months after a man who was convicted of rape against the woman in another state was freed from prison after it was determined that she made up the accusations in that case as well.

Suspect accused of arson in Lansing apartment fire

Lansing police are saying that a late-night fire at an apartment building was set by a 31-year-old man whom they have arrested. Though there were no injuries and little property damage in the fire, the man could face significant prison time if convicted of arson.

Changes to Michigan's Medical Marihuana Act

Michigan medical marihuana users should be aware of recent changes to the Michigan Medical Marihuana Act. One of the changes went into effect in December of last year, regarding the transportation of medical marihuana. The new law says that medical marihuana must be transported in an enclosed case in the trunk of the car; and if the vehicle does not have a trunk, it must be in an enclosed case that is not readily accessible from the inside of the car.
