MSU student charged with assault and false police report

Our Michigan readers may agree with us when we say that the problem with not telling the truth is that it usually catches up with you at some point. Some white lies are little ones (your weight, your age, your IQ) but others can cause problems. When there are a number of people involved in a fist fight, so there are multiple witnesses, it is not a good idea to stretch the truth.

Recently it was reported that a Michigan State University student was involved in a fight. When filing a police report, the young man claimed to be the victim rather than the instigator. The 20-year-old man has been charged with filing a false police report which is a felony. He has also been charged with misdemeanor domestic assault, stalking and two counts of assault and battery.

The charges stem from an incident in which the 20-year-old was having a disagreement with his ex-girlfriend which allegedly turned physical. Some nearby hockey players attempted to break it up, and instead became embroiled in the tussle. Who hit who was not mentioned in the news report, although a photo image of the 20-year-old's hands and arms show blood and scratch marks.

Did the hockey players over-react? Did the 20-year-old feel threatened as he was overwhelmed by others and was seeking only to protect himself? Was the 20-year-old fighting in self-defense? Did he tell the truth to the police officers?

One of the objectives of the legal system is that truth and justice will prevail. This young man is innocent until proven guilty beyond any reasonable doubt
