Teen and 27-year-old from Lansing charged with larceny

When a person is charged with stealing something, the criminal charge and the potential consequences depend upon the situation. Was a gun allegedly used during the incident? Was a home or residence broken into? Was a person threatened during the incident? What was the value of the item or items that were taken?

Recently it was reported that two men from Lansing, one a 27-year-old and one a 19-year-old, were allegedly caught in the act of stealing items from an auto salvage yard. The criminal charges against them are based on the value of the items that were reportedly stolen.

According to police reports, someone witnessed the two men parking a car near a back fence of Lansing One Stop Automotive, an auto salvage yard on Baker Street and then crawling under the fence into the salvage area. The police were called and claimed that the two men were caught crawling back under the fence. There were items in and around the parked car which the salvage yard owners claimed belonged to them.

A question arises regarding the news story and the ownership of the salvage yard parts or equipment. Unless there was an inventory with serial numbers, can the prosecution prove that the items that were in the parked car once belonged to the salvage company? Was any of the inventory noteworthy in any way and identifiable -- or were they generic car parts?

The two men have been charged with larceny. The criminal charge is punishable by up to 10 years imprisonment. They can also be fined either $15,000 fine or three times the value of the stolen property. It was not reported how the men would plead to the charges.

If you have been charged with Larceny, it is imperative that you retain an experienced defense attorney who can protect your interests and present a solid defense.
