Michigan doctor to be sentenced for illicit surveillance of girl

A longtime Michigan pediatrician faces up to two years in prison after he pleaded no contest to a felony charge of surveilling an unclothed person. The person in question is the doctor's 12-year-old neighbor, who had been his patient since she was born.

The man will be sentenced in March, and he will have to register every year for 15 years on the Michigan sex offender registry. The 65-year-old doctor--who has practiced medicine in Michigan for the last 34 years--was placed on a leave of absence from his job when the allegations came to light, and he has since resigned. As a result of his felony conviction, his medical license will be automatically suspended as well.

The key piece of evidence in the case was a video the girl's mother made on her iPad of the man peeping through his window and apparently masturbating. The two houses are next door to each other, and the doctor's bathroom window looks out on the girl's room, where she changed clothes. Police said he had watched her at least four times in October, and he was arrested Nov. 22.

Prosecutors dropped other charges against the man, including two other surveilling counts and two misdemeanor window peeping charges, in exchange for the no-contest plea. Although the plea means the doctor does not admit guilt, it is treated at sentencing as if he had pleaded guilty.

Sex crimes are treated very seriously in Michigan, as this case illustrates. Anyone accused of crimes of a sexual nature owe it to themselves to consult with an attorney experienced in sex crimes defense.

Thanks for the information. It is good to see the mother was able to use technology for good, and this man will pay for this horrible actions. I wonder if he will continue to live next door to the victim. Anyone know? That poor child will never feel safe if he continues to live there.
