Habitual offender arraigned on felony murder and gun charges

On Thursday, December 21, 2011, Eaton County District Court Judge Harvey Hoffman arraigned Christopher Allen Perrien on two counts of felony murder and two gun charges in relation to the shooting deaths of Michael and Terri Greene on September 22, 2011.

Mr. Perrien was serving a 300-day jail sentence for using a stolen card and being a habitual offender when the murders occurred.  Three weeks prior to the shootings, Mr. Perrien had been granted work release and was allowed to leave the jail for a job that did not exist.  It was during his work release for the nonexistent job when Perrien allegedly shot and killed Mr. and Mrs. Greene.  The body of Mr. Greene was found in the livingroom of his home and the body of his wife, Terri Greene, was found in a small pond behind the home.

A letter from an East Lansing company called Advanced Building Contractors, Inc. supported Mr. Perrien's work release.  The letter was drafted by a woman named Crystal Gonzalez, who claimed to be the "human resource manager, in charge of hiring and scheduling employees".  She stated that Mr. Perrien worked as a laborer and estimator and that "Mr. Perrien is an asset to our company and performs very well in his work, as well as with our clients.  We would appreciate that he be allowed work release and are willing to make sure he is picked up and dropped off at the county jail."  However, pursuant to state records, no record exists for Advanced Building Contractors, Inc.  Ms. Gonzalez provided a telephone number in her letter; when she was contacted by the local media, she commented, "I have nothing to say".

Mr. Perrien has a lengthy criminal record, including burglary, credit card fraud, driving with a suspended license, breaking and entering a vehicle to steal property and passing bad checks, and is a habitual offender.  He faces life in prison for the felony murder charges.

When an individual is charged with serious felonies, it is imperative to retain an experienced defense attorney who can protect the interest of the accused and present a solid defense.
